It's a tool, not the most effective one...but for now it's what we have...same issues arise in email.

Exactly. When something of a larger business dealing comes up I always try to get the person to phone me or I call them...... and talk. Very little room for misunderstanding on the phone. It is certainly heads and tails above ICQ or email. Less room for ego and posturing as well.
