I do it all the time. In fact, 3 designers owe me work that I haven't issued details for. My last programmer did, too.

Why would someone want to go through a bunch of legal papers only to find out the contract is for 5 galleries? Sure, 5 galleries is $150, but it's also a waste of time for extremely busy people.

Since when is 1 paper a bunch of legal papers?

I don't care if I wanted him to design me a single 120x60 button. If I want the contents, concept, or even the fact that he is making it for me to be kept secret then I have the right to ask him to sign for that protection.
