Rescue workers have freed a man who fell down a septic hole in Frederick County, Md.
Officials said rescue crews from Carroll, Frederick and Montgomery counties who have the expertise participated in the rescue.
The man fell into a 10 to 12 feet deep hole dug to hold a septic system. Workers had trouble removing the man because the sides of the hole were unstable.
Fire Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Carmack said the 36-year-old man had been unconscious but was awake and complaining of back injuries.
The man was removed from the scene, which was heavily wooded, in an ambulance and then transported to a Maryland State Police helicopter.
