when you sharpen an image you are adding weight to the graphic. I dont know techincally "why" but as soon as you sharpen youll add a little weight to it.
i try do as best i can without shaprening.
go to "save for web" and fool around with that, youll get better results, but youll have to toy around a little more..
thats what i do anyhow...
