The real way to make money with a 404 trap.
Surfers are snoopy bastards. If you have any sort of numbered directories on your server, surfers are going to try and find more free shit. Be smart about it.
Don't have a bunch of directories like...
jane/1/index.html
jane/2/index.html
jane/3/index.html
jane/4/index.html
jane/5/index.html
jane/6/index.html
Instead, try something like this:
jane/3/index.html
jane/6/index.html
jane/8/index.html
jane/12/index.html
jane/16/index.html
jane/40/index.html
Snoopy surfers are always going to check out the other options. Thing is, they're going to meet a 404 trap. Biggest problem with 404 traffic seems to be that people don't target it well. They setup one 404 page for their entire domain, which is just wasting money unless everything on that domain is of one particular niche, but even then you're better off 404'ing a microniche or a particular model, etc.
So, in the above case, you'd set the 404 for the jane directory, and all sub-directories, to a 404 page relating to jane, or the niche/site she belongs to. Targetted 404 traffic. Space the numbers out like that, and the snoopy surfer is going to keep running into the 404. The majority of even the most persistent snoopers are going to click through eventually.
Yes, i know this is obvious advice, so spare me the welcome to last century bullshit. Lots of people don't use this simple technique, and they're missing out on an extra source of income.
Now, having read this, you owe me a blowjob.
