It's unusual to get a real original performer nowadays. Same with actresses. They're imitating people imitating Kathrine Hepburn, Audrie Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe.
That's why you've gotta go back to the classics to see the originals do their stuff. It's not to say there aren't great actors nowadays because there are. Yet acting is about convincing the audience the perfomance is real and not contrived. If I'm watching a movie or tv show or radio drama and I KNOW I'm watching a movie, tv show or radio drama then the acting failed.

Yeah but a lot of classics fail that test. Cagney was good for his era...so were all those guys...but there was a certain style to acting then that you look at it now some of it's quite cheesy.
I don't know if it was just the writing or what....but I love the classics however I see this now.
Not in every movie..but a lot.
