My point mainly was that all reasonable attempts should be made to settle privately before bringing it to the boards. Too many times it turns out the person hasn't called a number posted on the person's site or other contact methods listed or they fired off an e-mail and are posting 2 days later about no response.

I totaly agree... settling quietly is alwasy best... bt sometimes people don't want to deal with these things so they ignore it... then sometimes the boards are the only way to get some resolve... sometimes not.
