Here most people wont sell you a horse unless you pay for all of it. Keep in mind that you need to pay for boarding, food, shots, horseshoeing etc.
My advice would be do what we did, and visit some boarding stables in your area. See what they charge, look around and pick their brain. See what you can get for your money, how nice the people are. Here the stable we are looking at everyone goes in and buys the meds online and we split the costs, saves everyone a lot of money. Also don't forget about things like mortality insurance to cover the cost, and saddles, pads etc. A good saddle alone is around $700-1200.
