Actually CDPD connections like Go America are lucky to be 20K -- downhill, with a tailwind, on a good day. The nicest thing you can say about it is that it works in a whole lot of places without a phone jack. (forget using it in Vegas, tho -- had a hell of a time at Internext getting a connection).

If you're looking at Go America, look real carefully at what's really roaming and what's not -- their unlimited plan (at least used to) seems to have a hidden per kilobit surcharge in some coverage areas -- like my home area... I got a far better deal from WISP as a provider for the areas I'm liable to use it in. PCMCIA modems vary from about $450 for a Sierra Wireless to about $225 for a Merlin. They all pretty much work the same.

Ricochet rocks. The downside is REAL limited coverage area, and an external modem that (last time I saw one, it may have gotten better) was about the size and weight of a brick. Figure you'll get about ISDN grade service from it.
