I think we learned that cable/telecom companies do not mix well with content. AOL-Time Warner was a disaster and Comcast/Disney will be as well if it goes through. Companies should learn to stick to what they do well.

Will the future of the internet be comprised of several large monopolistic companies controlling everything? No. The beauty of the internet is the fact that any (and every) shmuck with a text editor and an ftp client can participate. This was never a factor with television.

Besides, for the most part the internet is controlled by several large companies. Luckily, there leash is short because it has to be. AOL, MSN, and as JDog said UUNet all control a lot. Actually most companies use UUNet?s infrastructure (AOL included).
