"I didn't show up for court because I didn't have a professional bodyguard," Love told Stern on Thursday as the shock jock pleaded with her to "get your life together" and urged her to apologize to the judge.
Love rambled and cursed as she spoke about the criminal cases pending against her but insisted she was "sober as a judge."
The general manager for Stern's home radio station, WXRK in New York, said he had to bleep Love 15 times, setting a new record for a guest appearance on the show.
A Beverly Hills Superior Court judge issued a bench warrant for Love's arrest on Wednesday after she failed to appear for a hearing on felony drug possession charges, but he agreed to hold the warrant until next Tuesday after Love's lawyer cited unexplained "security concerns" as the reason for her absence.
Love, 39, also failed to appear for the scheduled start of trial on Wednesday afternoon in a Los Angeles court on a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Love has pleaded innocent to all of the charges.
Both cases stem from Love's Oct. 2 arrest outside the Beverly Hills home of a boyfriend, where police said she was breaking windows in the middle of the night. Hours after being released on bail, she was taken to a local hospital for what police called "a medical emergency."
"I didn't throw any rocks at the window," Love told Stern. "I kicked in the door because I didn't have a key. That's the God's truth."
Regarding charges she faces for unlawfully possessing the prescription painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone, she said, "Oxycontin is Percocet without the aspirin in it. I've shattered my hip twice. I certainly do take it under a doctor's guidance. I have serious pain sometimes and it hurts. Let's let the doctors decide."
Prosecutors in the Beverly Hills case said on Monday they believed the singer was ready to enter a guilty plea and ask to attend a drug diversion program. If Love successfully completed the program, the conviction would be removed from her record.
But on Stern's program, Love said, "I'm not going to plead guilty to something I didn't do."
Love also spoke about her ongoing battle with relatives of her late husband, Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, for custody of their 11-year-old daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.
"My daughter is depressed beyond belief," she said. "Because you know what? She likes me. It is kind of hard when your grandmother goes after your money."
The recording artist insisted that the custody fight has less to do with her own behavior than the family's attempts to gain control over her daughter's inheritance. "All that is at work here is human greed," she said. "I thought I knew evil I didn't know anything. The greed is outrageous."
Love's conversation with Stern ended with her demanding that he profess his love for her, and he obliged.
"I love you Courtney. I support you," Stern said. She is scheduled to call in to Stern again on Friday.
