Teenager's £12,000 spree on father's credit card

Teenager's £12,000 spree on father's credit card

A teenager took his father's credit card before spending £12,000 during a four-day spending spree in Rome and Brighton.

Tom Smith took the card from his father's wallet while he was out jogging.

The 17-year-old then booked himself a flight from Stansted to Rome where he spent his first night in a three-star hotel.

He reportedly spent £1,900 in Versace buying footwear, jewellery, belts and T-shirts; £1,800 in Dolce & Gabbana on clothes, footwear, T-shirts and underwear; £800 in Prada on footwear and clothes; £1,632 on a Louis Vuitton suitcase, and £163 on glasses from Armani.

He paid £300 for a limousine tour of Rome and also booked into the five-star, £340-a-night Hassler Roma hotel.

After returning to the UK, he booked another limousine at Gatwick, picked up three friends in London, then travelled to Brighton. There they took two £250-a-night rooms at a four-star hotel, reports The Sun.

Next day, the teenager picked up a £860 Sony video camera before a limousine took the four home. The limousine hire cost him £1,983.

He said: "If Dad had got me these things in the first place I wouldn't have had to steal his card."

His father John, who is said to earn £100,000-a-year as an investment banker, branded his son "a little s**t -but forgave him for what he'd done.

The teenager, who is set to be interviewed by police, said: "I might avoid a conviction if I pay the bill."
