The problem is irresponsible pet population policies. People are allowed to breed dogs and cats at their leisure.
Tens of millions of dogs and cats end up without homes and the communities don't have the room, staff or money to care for them.
The only solution is to make pet owners spay and neuter their pets.
Annually about 3 to 4 million dogs and a like number of cats go to shelters each year in the US for a total of 6 to 8 million animals.
About half are adopted, the other half are euthanized.
So about 10,000 dogs and cats are put down for no reason every single day.
