An occasional Hello, how are you is ok... ask how biz is, and maybe they'll spill some insight into a big money maker..... this also gives you a chance to tell him/her what your skillset/assets are so in the future he'll contact you if he thinks you can work together on something...
Don't be annoying, anywhere in this business world.
Do know anyone you do big business with, or have at least met them in person and looked into their eyes.... this way you will be able to hopefully see if they are full of it, or str8 shooters...
