He wanted to be an artist for more than 1/2 of his life. It was not until his disollutions of Post WWI and his eventual imprisonment (see Mein Kamf) that he started to become politically inclined and motivated. Matter of fact, in 1913 he tried to avoid military service and moved to Munich. It was not until 1919, when he joined the worker's party that he started having political aspirations.
