You could always join SETI - then again it wouldn't be working for you, it'd be working for them.
Probably the best thing to do would be batch up a bunch of photos and have it working on resizing them and making thumbs while you're not there, or have it converting video (that always takes a looooooong time and you don't want to sit through it).
But don't forget to have it run something like Ad-Aware, then scandisk and defrag at *least* once a week or your sleek new computer is going to be running like a sloth in two months.
