civ 3, with that latest add-on "conquests" is absolutely #1

i'd also recommend ww2 fighter sim "IL-2 forgotten battles"
i so liked sid's colonization too, oldie but still very playable
finally, find sinclair spectrum emulator and try sherlock holmes textual adventure from 1984
i'm serious, it's a gem
