That AT&T map is ONLY for the mLIFE NATIONAL service plan, they have the mLIFE DIGITAL ONE RATE plane gives you unlimited roaming and long distance throughout all of the light area too - meaning that you don't have to pay for anything but airtime, regardless of where you are on either the light or dark areas. It comes with 350 minutes and you can have unlimited nights and weekends too. AT&T has by far the largest coverage area in the states - and that's not an opinion, that's fact. The coverage you get is determined almost entirely by the plan, not by the coverage area dictating the size of the network.
What's more, if you don't travel outside of your state, then you'd be of more benefit on the mLIFE LOCAL plan which has a home calling area the size of your entire state in most states. Just for example - the home calling area of California includes almost 100% of California, Oregon, Washington State, parts of Nevada and parts of Idaho - meaning that providing you place a call from your cellphone while you are inside of that area, the call is local. The mLife Local plan home calling area is determined by your primary place of usage.

Verizon claims they have the largest network also. Its probably fairly close in size.
