i think it depends on the degree you do. i've got a degree in engineering and if you wanted to be an engineer at a decent level, there is no way you could do it without a degree. same would apply with chris if he had wanted to become a chemist i would imagine. it's different with some of the less vocational courses, some seem to be a complete waste of time.

there's lot's of people who make big money as entrepeneurs and that's not something you learn, you've either got it or you haven't. a degree wouldn't make any difference to these people. but not everyones an entrepeneur and to get a better standard of job in this world you need an education just to get an interview.

i probably won't use my degree, and i'm earning 10x what my friends from uni are who are on graduate training schemes, but i'm still glad i did it. (i only bought a pc because i was starting at uni). i'm even thinking of doing an msc part-time soon.
