I just glanced over this thread but

a) You can network like this.
b) It's not hard
c) Don't need a router

Only thing is when you boot the main pc the others are offline. Plug the first pc in and get it online using settings and setting up a lan connection. Run the networking wizard and make that disk to run in the other pc's. Run it, release IP's, reboot and it should be gold. I always set this up and I could do it faster than the $120 an hour network guys trying to use 1 card and set up virtual networks.

Don't need any special software either. I had Sygate and all that b/s just gave me headaches. Hell in the Windows 98 book it shows how to network like this in fact.
