I can understand why he would stay quiet in the position he was in. If you'd worked hard to get where you were, then you'd be loathe to make trouble and risk getting the boot... or worse. At least he has eventually stood up and said his bit instead of staying quiet, and evidently he did kick up a bit of a stink if he got fired. Not saying that the way he went about things was absolutely the right way to do it, but understandable.
The other thing is that no one would have taken any notice if he'd come forward with all of this then. Bush managed to start the war as a follow on to Afghanistan by creating this totally fictitious association in Americans' mind between Saddam and Osama. While America was gripped with post 9/11 patriotic fever and the Bush propoganda engine was in full swing, the guy would have been shouted down and ignored by the mainstream media.
