trials are designed by nature to trick someone into paying more than they thought they would pay. It's a marketing method designed on deception. Who the fuck would really agree to pay $49.99? that surfer only thought they were gona pay $1.99 - and then forgot to cancel. by the time the credit card bill reaches them you usually get the initial and 2 rebills - for $102 a client - on something they only wanted to pay $1.99 for. - it's sooo close to fraud you might as well call it fraud.
does fraud pay? - you better believe it does. but it's not a long term business model as visa's new 1% rules now show. And it shows NO RESPECT for the surfer (your client) whatsoever.
there are a few companies that havnt' had trials EVER, and they did VERY well. Streamray, AFF, and quiet are a few to mention off the top of my head.
Solid Proof that you don't have to be a THEIF to make good money in this business.

So true.
I have no idea why other webmasters just don't get it. It seems so obvious to me. But whatever; I'll just join your shit and fuck everybody else.
