It seems that both borders are really tightening up and if u don't say the right thing when being questioned, they can turn u away or detain u for as long as they like....my girlfriend was detained for 4 hours and ended up missing a flight to Mexico last week for no reason...they told her that they had "suspicion" and then when she told them that she had missed her flight, they said, I hope u have travel insurance...
