Folks, think of things like Tide, Apple, even M$'s flying windows or butterfly (MSN) logos.
Clean and simple... less filters, more emphasis on bold, bright, crisp and instant visual memorization.

You are talking of company logos here.
I think website logos are very different from company logos. Companies need to be branded and their logos need to fit everywhere from letterheads to bottle caps. Websites however need their logos to look good and make their site look good. Someone visiting the site for the first time should look at the logo and have something he'll remember later. This would not be true for a Nike tick sign or a microsoft windows sign. No one would remember a tick sign once he left the site.
Ask yourself - which website logos do you remember?
The only ones I remember are thehun and thumbzilla (besides the ones I did myself, like Sleazydream and Porn gata.com ). They are colorful and attractive, not simple and in one or two colors like a Nike or Pepsi logo. In my opinion website logos need to be attractive rather than just simple and printable.
