So in order for someone to have a "regular" membership at 35 bucks a month, they have to play mail games or they get charged an extra 12 bucks a month for some random DVD.

Ouch.. That's fairly iffy too... "About once a month" .. so it could be more.
Just a thought, but I think your conversions will go up and your pissed off / irritated CUSTOMERS will disappear / go down for being tricked, mainly because I'm sure they'll want to cancel their membership, thereby likely having to pay $24.95 or more for each of the 5 dvds.
