In the US they can hit the employee for
DEFAMATION -- normally this is a hard case to prove. However, given the malicious intent of the ex employee to harm PIB's relationship with its affiliates, this element seems to be satisfied.
TORTIOUS INTERFERENCE WITH CONTRACT -- This is the most damaging lawsuit, financially, they can bring against the ex employee. This provides that if a person sabotages a business relationship, the damaged parties can sue that person.
To answer Sleazy's questions, employees get pissed all the time and want to get back at the employer. It happens. Don't be surprised. However, it did take balls to do it this way.
