Try this.

Start / Run / regedit.exe

Navigate down to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects

Delete all the keys in this folder (they look like {10294-2323-11314-5515}) and you might get the one you're looking for. Another startup of IE should prove yes or no. Worst case you'll disable some browser helper object you're running under IE which you can obviously reinstall.
