So I finally bought myself a DVD burner today. It burns DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM. What exactly is the difference between each format?

And if I have a 2x blank DVD and I try to burn it at 4x, what will happen? Will it ruin the disc? Will it only burn it at 2x? Will it burst into flames?
