Not a bright idea, but if your friend wouldnt have pulled a knife things would have been different. Maybe more cuts and bruises and punching, but a fight is a fight... toe to toe. Outnumbered or not, who hasnt been outnumbered?
Again, it sucks but thats the law.
And your example is bad because i HAVE gone to jail because a friend broke a bottle on someone, I also have been put in jail for trying to stop a fight and the cop saying I was involved in it.
I didnt do more than an overnight but I have went to jail for it, also the guy didnt end up dead as it seems he did in your friends crime.
Sounds like a bunch of highschool crap but it DID result in the death of someone, if youre old enough to go to drug deals you should at least be able to fight.... your friend pulled a knife.
If this was self defense it may be different, but a knife was pulled and ended up inside someones heart, the rest were scrapping but someone pulled a knife,... not good.
