I was worried about this same thing a year ago. We wanted to take in a puppy but already had a 13 year old dog who never really had any inter action with other dogs. Plus, my 13 year old is as mean as a snake.

I had nightmares about bring our new puppy (Jersey) home and Sadie (older dog) eatting it lol. When the time came to bring Jersey home, we took both dogs up to a school field to meet. Sadie didn't want to have anything to do with Jersey.

Then we took both home. For the first month, Sadie wanted nothing to do with Jersey or us. She would come to us when called but then went and laid in the kicthen.

Jersey would chase Sadie around a little bit but Sadie would just jump on the couch since Jersey couldn't get up there yet. Its been a year now since we have brought Jersey home and I'm happy to say they are best buds now. They play with each other and everything.

I think Sadie just needed some time to get used to having another dog in the house. I believe it was the best decision we ever made. Unfortunately, we just found out yesterday Sadie has cancer. So we really don't know how long we will have her with us. But thanks to Jersey, she is still bouncing around like a puppy.

Well, that is just my experience. Thought I would share.
