It downconverts it to 2 channels so you have to choose dolby pro logic on the receiver.

The only way for it to work is if your receiver has 5.1 (or higher) analog inputs, so you can connect all the analog outputs of the sound card directly into the receiver.

Still sounds good though as dolby pro logic. Would be nice to have the rear sound separation though.
Hey, I was on the can today and saw my SBLIVE manual in the magazine rack, Looks like you can get an mpeg-1 (maybe mpeg-2) decoder card that gives you the 5.1 discrete optical output. It plugs into a pci slot and has a cable that runs to the "aux in" and "aux" out on the sound card and plugs into the spdf/center jack on the back of your sound card. The decoder card itself has the single optical output on the back to wire directly into your 5.1 or even a 6.1 amplifier. The only stipulation is that you have to use the spdf output on your DVD-Rom plugged into the sound card's digital cd in to get 5.1 and 6.1 channel sound when you watch dvd movies on the pc. Other than that you can get 5.1 and 6.1 (6.1 depends on the sblive model) sound no matter what from divx-5.1 vids and games and even specialy encoded audio streames such as mp3's.
