I'd think it would be mighty difficult. Back a long time ago I thought I might like to become a perfumer...there is so much that goes into creating a single fragrance. You might well be able to patent a particular formula, but change one or two drops and even if it smells the same to the "uneducated" nose, it's still technically different.
All speculation on my part, as far as patenting goes.
As for fragrances, I'll say this: If I'm not your lover or a very likely candidate to become so, I don't want to smell your fragrance. Please. Go light.
