I read somewhere that there are more stars (just stars) in the universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches on earth. with that being the case the odds on there not being life out there has got to be huge.

I'm not sure if we have ever been visited by extraterestrial life, but if you think how far technology has come on in just the last 50 years on earth, if life on another planet got their shit together a few thousands years before we did, think how advanced they would be, and reaching distant galaxy's would probably be easily achievable.
