The Advent of Aliens the world populace is ready for.
Religeon wouldnt be a factor. But wars would be inevitiable as what races the aliens interacted with would become "targets".
Fear of not knowing or fear of Alien favoritism even if in the slightest would result catastrophy.
It is my belief the US government has had such encounters and as a result we have technologies that put the US ahead of others in technologies. Yeah the planes are first evidences of such technologies but even more so in everyday civilian equipment. Example Computers.
Ya know who first invisioned a computer? Ever heard the story? It is quite mysterious but the Mathmatician theorist still claims he just recieved a "vision" out of no where and began doing it he thought of things he knew he could have never thought up himself.
"Folding" space is possible it has been proven theoretically. The theories are a bit far fetched while others make solid sense.
The ends to create a gravitational flux is still not obtainable with our current level of technology we have today.
However it is underway as we study gravitational effects in matter then move on to study methods to direct and induce gravitational fluxes within an area of space be it terrestrial or non terrestrial.
If ya can picture using "Fold" space technology for Mining in the first phases would be a time the human race will induce a fold somewhere in space to grab material to mine materials from.
