Actually, small world cuz I'm half Sicilian and half central Italian, my hubby is born and raised in the north of Italy so I think we have it all covered :-) Do you speak Italian or Sicilian? It's hilarious going to Sicily nowadays and nobody understanding the 'ancient' Sicilian that I speak and they think I'm outdated (little do they know I speak the Northern Italian too) Sicily isn't the sicily our parents left many moons ago!
I speak basic Italian. My mom was smart cause her thinking was that if I learn Italian then anyone can understand me but if I just learn a dialect then I won't. I do undestand Sicialian usually. When I'm there I have no problem understanding people but sometimes I do come across people that speaks various dialects I have a harder time with.

You're right about Sicily being a totaly different place now compared to when our parents were there. Hell I've noticed it myself changing cause I've been visiting since I was 7 and now I'm 28. It used to be waaaaaay more old fasioned while now it's a lot more "Westernized".

In Northern Italy it's waaaaaaaay westernized big time. Partying, raves etc.. is all going on. It's just like here but they speak a different language

Sicily is still a bit mixed. You've got some serious old fashioned attituded AND more modern thinking etc.. mixed together.

If you come out to Vegas next month I'll have to go drink an espresso with ya :-)
