According to my beliefs the unneccessary destruction of living things such as trees is distasteful to say the least (in fact, even when in using the craft, pagans rarely cut anything down that isn't already down). For you it's really up to you, but consider.. that tree takes 10-15 years to grow to a size that is considered a "good size" christmas tree. Cutting it down means one less tree to provide oxygen, and another 10-15 years to replace it with another viable tree.
What causes less waste?
