Like 99% of all of the "christian" holidays, it was a pagan feast holiday, and the missionalries attributed the day to something in Christianity. They did this so that the local people they were trying to convert would not "loose" a holiday.

"I can't convert to christianity. Then I won't be able to celebrate huanamag!"
