1) If you already know about Henderson I'm not sure what information you need on "areas". Pretty much everywhere I've been in Henderson (I moved here a few months ago) ranges from OK to really nice. Las Vegas is not a pretty city and no matter where you move you aren't going to be far from construction, dirt lots and brick walls with tagging on them. If you aren't aware, there is an area called Summerlin that is pretty nice and you may want to look for housing there, as well.
2) If your wife has waitressing skills, she's golden. I'd say there are approximately sixty-two billion waitressing jobs in the greater Las Vegas area. There are also plenty of stores if she's looking to get into retail. You didn't say what she wants to do so I can't be much more specific.
3) I like it here a lot. This is by far the most entertaining place I have ever lived. I miss the friends I left behind when I moved but I don't regret coming here. There are a million things to do here at any time of the day or night and as long as you have a few bucks in your pocket you will never be bored. Las Vegas is an exciting and interesting place to live. Living in Henderson just outside the city is perfect as far as I am concerned; easy access to everything and no traffic or noise problems right near my home.
4) Insurance rates are a little high.
Edit: RE: kristin's post. Traffic is not bad at all in the area I live in. As long as you stay away from the strip traffic is not a big deal. What does suck is the design and layout of the streets. They were not planned and built in a uniform manner so a lot of lanes don't line up correctly and for some reason the right lane is always disappearing.
