As far as the music scene goes... the competition its alot tougher. If one person like Tupac stumbles onto something and it catches on... then by next week there will be 50 Tupac wanna be's out there.
Elvis carved out a spot for himself and nobody really copied him cause they were doing their own thing. Back then there were a smaller number of bands that were popular. Today peoples music tastes vary so much that bands are fighting for cd sales, etc.
Back then you had Elvis, Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Zepplin and a few other and everyone pretty much listen to it.
Not the same world today buddy.. come into the year 2000

Not even going to bother reading what you said because your ignorance shines through in the first line.
The world is "smaller." Metaphorically dude. You can get on a plane and be on another continent in a few short hours...but the thing is you don't even need to do that...today you've got the net...broadband...MTV...Music Videos...they didn't have all that then.
Today your a star just by being on a "reality show." You can even be a star across the world.
Was impossible to do that then...you had to work it in real time. Put in the effort in live shows...travel...no music videos for Elvis just State fair grounds.
