why would someone make the remark that these animals are being driven to extinction?

are you looking at surveys of whale populations and population growth and see some evidence of decline of those species in question?

i was watching a program on Japans "scientific" whaling program and it seemed to be quite the opposite. populations of the whales they hunt (Minke whales i think?) are growing like never before. The issue that comes to light is not whale populations being threatened but the simple fact that they are ingoring the international ban on whaling.

*yawn*

too bad for cows that they are not "amazing animals"
too bad for chickens that they are not "amazing animals"
too bad for millions of metric tons of fish that they are not "amazing animals"

peoples sensitivities are so misguided and selective.
