I still don't see how spam steals traffic.

Sure, it saturates a program if everyone on AOL has already gotten a ref link. Too bad those people won't be buying a membership from a TGP gallery or search engine. Tough. First come first serve. It's up to a webmaster to get the first serve anytime he can.

As far as bogging down the sponsors, who cares? The sponsor uses more bandwidth in a day but if they get 10000 clicks from a spammer who's converting 1:80 they're still getting a much bigger ROI on their bandwidth than from TGP galleries that bring in 1 sale per 300-1k hits. And if they get all that money they can afford to up the bandwidth that very same day. Supply and demand is a bitch but it's how the world works.
