Well, my biggest beef with the whole nomination process was that the resource site category had been left out which is a fundamental category to our industry in my opinion. I could very well post a link to a thread where this whole thing was discussed but I don't want to disrespect Lens like that. But in this thread the issue was raised as to why this category was deleted and it was stated by an employee and this is a quote from that thread "The reason for no Resource this year is because of a few reasons.
Since XBiz is a Resource, we felt it was conflict
We have a limited amount of time for Awards show so we eliminated this cat in order to add a couple others such as Innovation and Industry Achievement.
Resource sites/boards can be nominated in the People's Choice.
Resource sites are vital to the industry- they can still be honored."
Now, since helmy owned sites are not eligible for participation then why is it that it is a conflict to have a resource site category and not a sponsor/affiliate category?
Now, something smells rotten in Denmark considering the various excuses other than the one listed above for not having the resource site category. There was also an excuse listed about not having enough time to include it. WTF??? It was in place last year but they had time to remove it from the listing? I'm not sure what's going on but last year they at least listed all the companies that received nominations and then just narrowed it down from that list to a list of finalists. Instead this year they only post 4 per category and none of the other submissions even get a nod of recognition.
The biggest problem with no resource site category is that we all use resource sites on a daily basis. They are the backbone of the industry. Without them it would be a hell of a lot more difficult to get our jobs done. Some of us don't use designers and some of us don't use affiliate sites and some of us don't use content sites.. but guess what EVERY single one of us uses resource sites. Yes, it can be included in the people's choice but why? Why does it not have it's own category and reserve the people's choice for something that is truly unique or stand out.
I do applaud those that are nominated but how valid can you consider these awards when the most obvious category has been deleted and they didn't even give a passing mention to ALL the sites that were nominated like they did last year.
