I had a spontanious collapsed lung when I was 18, they had to snake a tube into my chest and fill me with this acid stuff to scar up my lung, so that when it re-inflated it would adhere to my chest wall.
I was awake during the entire procedure, it was a living hell.
At one point the doctor leaned over me and said, "the surface of your lung is as sensitive as your eyeball!"
I couldn't even scream or cry it hurt so bad. Sometimes I have panic attacks about the whole thing, and it's been 18 years since then. Ugh.
