Songs from movies have such an edge. There's a Beach Boys song Michael Moore used in Roger and Me over an interview with a Vietnam vet whose life was shattered that now even though it's just a fluffy Beach Boys tune every time I hear it I think of that scene and that guy.

#1 has to be John Lennon's 'Imagine' - awesome song on its own but his murder puts it over the top as the all time saddest song.
