Actually it IS Canning Street, North Carlton. Well spotted, weasel! I found the photo on the site for North Carlton Primary (AKA Lee Street), and it's of particular interest because I lived in the north-west block of that intersection for 20 years of my life. I took the colour one above to try to reproduce that image. It was quite difficult to get the angle right as I didn't have a tripod, and I think I would have had to be on the road itself to match everything up exactly. It was close enough, anyway...
I guess you guys are/were both Melbournites?

Yeah, live in Brighton. Don't think I have even been to Canning st but it just looks like a typical inner suburban Melbourne st..
