If you haven't been there in the last several months, you will be very impressed with what they did to the seawall there. They have spent millions on improving the area right where Georgia St. enters the Park and have brought the seawall from the Park all the way to Canada Place downtown. They have kept a nice green belt along the seawall between the condo's and the water and there are lots of parkland and some swanky restaurants that have opened and in general they did a great job. There must be a few dozen new high end condos that were built there over the last couple of years for the "hoi poli".
And yes, it is relatively very close to the West End. I guess its a matter of taste. I think of it as a compromise. It doesn't have the same feel as the west end to me, but some would probably say it isn't gritty and scary compared to here, so...
