Exactly. If it had of been in any kind of official capacity, then it would have been wrong. But you're right, as a private citezen, he should be allowed to express his views as freely as the rest of us. As long as he doesn't preach like this when he's in the uniform, i don't think it's a problem.

When you are on active duty you are never a private citizen...you are military 24/7...and are not entitled to all of the rights of a civilian. In uniform or out of uniform he belongs to the military and his rights are curtailed. One can have private views and private discussions but what a military person can say in public is subject to review under the UCMJ and you are subject to judicial punishment.
