They are both great cameras, each with strengths and weaknesses. I do mostly outdoor work and the lens on the Canon is better for that than the Sony. If I shot indoors with no need for a decent optical zoom, I'd use the Sony. Almost apples and oranges on this one.

I agree with twistyneck. Tried them both out. I use a lot of Sony products because of the easy DV link feature. I have two Vaio laptops and 1 desktop for converting directly to DVD or whatever format you want. I use Pinnacle 8.8 for this. Canons are great for outdoors like the man said but I personally prefer the Sony products for the ease of use, price and funtcionality. It all depends on what you want to do. You can't go wrong with either Sony or Canon...
