Anti-depressants frequently cause weight gain and are a hindrance to weight loss. (although 100 lb.s in 3 months is insane - get to the doctor!)

Atkins is not a "fad", it's been around for over 30 years and has spawned several other low-carb eating plans. And as stated previously, the horror stories about the people who have gotten sick, or died, from Atkins (or had their kidneys explode from protein overload ;) ) are complete fabrications. There is not one documented example. By contrast, every edition of DANDR has pages upon pages of references to the exact studies quoted in the book.

Not everyone can lose weight as easily as "eating right". And the food pyramid as it exists is far from right. I asked my Endocrinologist about possible long-term affects of doing low carb (ketosis), and he said that the stress on the heart from being overweight and the complications of diabetes would kill me long before I had to worry about ketosis. I was able to stop taking my diabetes meds simply by not eating potatoes, flour and sugar. How can that be unhealthy?
