It's one thing to read, it's another to understand. I speak five languages and am learning Russian for the time being. I've actually read books by those authors you mention - in their original language. In a year or so, I'll be reading the Russians in their own words.
What you think of Gluck - I couldn't care less. Just wanted to say that it's a fine opera. You seem to take that personally - and also seem to have an extraordinary sensitive ego. Some day, someone will remove all that hot steam from your head - take care.
